Jacob Karwath, bassoon

Jacob Karwath began, after already having begun violin lessons, playing the bassoon at the age of 14, and soon was accepted to the music high school Schloss Belvedere Weimar to study with Manfred Beyer. From 1997 to 2001, he was a pre-college student in the studio of Georg Klütsch at the “Franz Liszt” University of Music in Weimar, where he also then completed his undergraduate studies with Frank Forst. In 2006, Jacob again studied with Georg Klütsch at the University of Music in Cologne. In 1999, he was a prizewinner of the national music competition “Jugend musiziert,” and in 2000, he received the 1st prize in competition of the al the music high schools in Weimar and the special prize chamber music. As part of his participation in many youth and chamber orchestra programs, Jacob Karwath has toured to Namibia, China, and California (where he was a guest player with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Barenboim), among others. Other orchestral experiences include his training with the Jenaer Philharmonic and as a member of the Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie. From 2009 to 2013, Jacob was a member of the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie Chemnitz. Since 2013, he is the acting solo bassoonist of the Philharmonischen Orchester Augsburg.
